International
The Max Planck Society conducts basic research in the natural sciences, life sciences, and humanities. Since its foundation in 1948, 22 Nobel laureates have emerged from its ranks.
A productive day at the Max Planck Institute
scientists at the Max Planck Institute for Dynamics of Complex Technical Systems in Magdeburg, Germany, show what makes their day in the lab. The Bioprocess Engineering research group of Udo Reichl uses the capabilities of microorganisms to produce viral vaccines. This is amusingly demonstrated with the hungry Cookie Monster (virus) pitching into cookies (cell substrate) to grow and multiply. His mouth is then taped with a red thread to illustrate his inactivation (vaccine).
