SATREPS is a Japanese government program that promotes international joint research. The program is structured as a collaboration between the Japan Science and Technology Agency (JST), which provides competitive research funds for science and technology projects, and the Japan Agency for Medical Research and Development(AMED), which provides competitive research funds for medical research and development, and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) , which provides development assistance (ODA).

SATREPS Program

SATREPS is a Japanese government program that promotes international joint research by JST, AMED, and JICA. The aim of the program is to acquire new knowledge and technology that lead to the resolution of global issues and advance of science and technology, and through this process, to create innovations. International joint research under the program also aims to enhance the research and development capabilities of developing countries and help create sustainable research systems able to address global issues. To date, 115 projects in 46 countries have been adopted since 2008.

SATREPS is a collaboration between JST and JICA with the following aims.

International Cooperation

Enhancing international cooperation in science and technology between Japan and developing countries

Addressing Global Issues and Advancing Science

Acquiring new knowledge and technology that lead to the resolution of global issues and the advance of science and technology, and through this process, creating innovations

Capacity Development

Boosting self-reliant research and development capacity in developing countries through international joint research, constructing sustainable research systems that can contribute to resolving issues, coordinating networking between researchers, and training future human resources in developing countries and in Japan.
