The task of Vinnova, the Swedish Agency for Innovation Systems, is to promote sustainable growth through the development of Swedish innovation systems in the areas of technology, transport, communications and working life, and by financing needs-driven research.

Mobilization for a sustainable future

Seminar on systems innovation and missions as a method for meeting difficult societal challenges, with the international leaders researchers Mariana Mazzucato and Banny Banerjee. Mariana Mazzucato, Director of Innovation and Public Purpose at University College London, compares the climate challenge with the moon landing, and talks about the need for a common direction and broad commitment throughout society if we are to succeed in transitioning to a sustainable future.

Banny Banerjee, Director Change Labs at Stanford University, explains that the complex and cross-system challenges we face require system-level solutions. That we must jointly succeed with large-scale solutions and innovation on a whole new level in order to solve large-scale problems.

The seminar is also attended by politicians from three ministries: Anders Ygeman, Minister of Energy and Digitization, Elin Olsson, State Secretary to Per Bolund and Stina Billinger, State Secretary to Ibrahim Baylan. In addition, Allan Larsson, chairman of Viable Cities, talks about the work with missions for climate-neutral cities within Horizon Europe.

The introductory speech will be given by Darja Isaksson, Director General of Vinnova, and Helena Bjarnegård, Chair of the Council for Sustainable Cities.

Our mission

We help to build Sweden’s innovation capacity, contributing to sustainable growth. We make it possible for organisations to address challenges together by enabling innovation that makes a difference. As Sweden's innovation agency, our work is governed by the Swedish government. We base our work on the global sustainability development goals of the 2030 Agenda adopted by the United Nations.

We help organisations meet societal challenges

Our support gives companies and organisations the opportunity to experiment and test new ideas before they become profitable. Every year, Vinnova invests approximately SEK 3 billion in research and innovation.

We’re an expert authority with 200 employees

Vinnova is a government agency under the Ministry of Enterprise and Innovation, and the national contact authority for the EU framework programme for research and innovation. We’re also the Swedish Government's expert authority in innovation policy. Vinnova employs just over 200 people. Our head office is in Stockholm with affiliates in Brussels, Silicon Valley and Tel Aviv.
